What does it cost to self-publish?
The short answer is... it depends! The video above should help you as I walk through my budget template.
Breakdown
Here are some general costs you should be aware of if you plan on publishing a children's picture book:
Professional Editing: $325
Illustrations: $3k-$5k is a good budget. You can go lower for simple illustrations and higher for more complex, time consuming illustration styles.
Design/formatting: $699
Cover design: $200
A+ content: $165
You may also want to budget for marketing costs such as:
eBook Promotions: Typically $25-$150
Video Trailers: $50-$200
Website design - $200-$1000 is standard
Amazon Ads: I would recommend budgeting $200+ per month
Promotional Materials (bookmarks, banners, etc.)
and others
If you are looking for pricing for another genre like longer chapter books, young adult, novels or non-fiction, it will be a higher cost and is commonly charged by the word. I have found Reedsy.com to be a great place to find editors in a variety of genres.
If you would like an estimate for a "Done for You" package, we are able to help you with that. Just set up a Discovery Call and we'll take it from there!
